Stepping Down From SpicyIP

For reasons that are both personal and professional, I will be stepping down from the leadership of SpicyIP, effective today. I will write a longer post about future arrangements soon.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the wonderful support and encouragement through all these years. I've learnt a lot from my interactions with you and I do hope that you will support SpicyIP in its continued fight for transparency and more informed IP policy making in this country.

Dear Prof.Shamnaad Baseer,

There is no doubt you took discussions in IP matters in India to a new level . But before stepping down we will request you to write an article on the Special Leave Petition filed by Government against Honorable Madras High Court order with respect to the the gazette notification by Government asking Controllers to carry out examination in the Patent Offices. As far as news available- The Honorable Supreme Court dismissed the Special Leave petition of the Government.

There is no denying the fact that long time you batted for big shots and tried to break the undommitable spirit of some people fighting for justice through your blog.

There is no personal animosity. We hope before stepping down -your conscience will prevail and you will write impartially in this issue !

Best wishes and Good luck in your new venture.
But please ensure -that SPICY IP goes into correct hands !

Dear Shamnad

It was always a pleasure reading (and listening) you. I sincerely hope that the decision has nothing to do with your professional affiliations.

While wishing you the best for your future endeavors, I dedicate the following lines to your exit:

"...Taarruf rog ho jaaye to usko bhoolnaa behtar
Taalluk bojh ban jaaye to usko todnaa achchha
Voh afsaana jise anjaam tak laana na ho mumkin
Voh afsaana jise anjaam tak laana na ho mumkin
Use ek khoobsoorat mod dekar chhodna achchha..."

Regards
Anony1

Your absence will create a void which will take year to fill in. Deeply acknowledge your contribution to SpicyIP.

It is indeed a great shock for honest officers in the Indian patent office. Spicyip was the voice of oppressed examiners and now we feel that our woes would go unheard. Please rethink your decision for the sake of larger interests of IP society.

Shamnad and PH Kurien were a formidable team which cleaned up the IPO. Now after Kurien's exit, things are creeping back to the bad old days. Agents who were banned and did not dare to enter the premises are now openly moving around and renewing their cozy relationship with officials. All the good work done is being undone.

Dear Anonymous @ 5:27 PM

You are right in certain points. PH Kurien totally cleaned the Trade Marks.
But Dont make blind allegations. Make specific references . It is true you are right. But who is misleading the topmost person ? some seniors only for their personal interest taking advantage that he is new to the system. Some fees which were denied in Kurians time is now desperately being taken by the seniors before the new topmost person understands everything. This senior people are very very dangerous. They don't care about Act and Rules.
Surprisingly in Kurians time also some decisions were in specifically made in favour of one particular firm .It is learnt now that the officer posted in Kurian s office in mUmbai was earlier working in that particular firm .Looking into Kurian deadly war against corruption-he cannot do this hence -- it can be surely said -something is fishy!
